BENTHIC COMMUNITIES IN LYME BAY PRE- AND POST EXPLORATORY DRILLING FOR OIL AND GAS, 1995. CLIENT: KERR-MCGEE.

Dr Phil Smith was the leader of the Ambios Ltd team that assessed the impact of exploratory drilling for oil on the ecology of Lyme Bay. The biological survey work involved ROV, grab sampling, intertidal surveys of sediments and rocky habitats, terrestrial invertebrate and plant surveys at Chesil beach and surveys of birds and cetaceans at sea. Dr Smith prepared reports on the baseline benthic invertebrate communities and assessed impacts due to exploratory drilling. He also assisted with determining which data should be put onto the GIS used for contingency planning in case of an oil spill.
